NAATI Dari Translation Certification
NAATI (National Accreditation Authority for Translators and Interpreters) is Australia's national standards and accreditation body for translators and interpreters. Our Dari translators hold NAATI Certified credentials.
NAATI certifies Dari translators, listed separately from Farsi (Persian). Dari is one of the highest-demand NAATI languages due to the large Afghan community in Australia.
Right-to-left script: Dari is written from right to left. Our translators ensure that all translated documents maintain correct text direction, formatting, and layout, which is particularly important for official documents and certificates that need to mirror the original format.
Arabic (Perso-Arabic variant) script: Dari uses the Arabic (Perso-Arabic variant) script. Our translation process ensures that all characters are correctly rendered and that the final document maintains professional formatting suitable for submission to government agencies, courts, and immigration authorities.
All NAATI-certified Dari translations from Sydney Translation include the translator's NAATI stamp, signature, and certification number. Learn more about our NAATI translation services and how certification works.

The Dari Language
- Dari is natively known as دری and belongs to the Indo-European, Iranian, Western Iranian language family.
- There are approximately 25 million native speakers worldwide.
- Dari is one of two official languages of Afghanistan (alongside Pashto) and is the Afghan variety of Persian, mutually intelligible with Farsi (Iran) and Tajik (Tajikistan).
- Dari serves as the lingua franca of Afghanistan, used for inter-ethnic communication among the country's diverse ethnic groups including Tajiks, Hazaras, Uzbeks, and Pashtuns.
- The Dari literary tradition is rich and ancient, sharing the heritage of classical Persian poetry including the works of Rumi, Hafez, and Ferdowsi.
- Dari uses four additional letters not found in standard Arabic: pe, che, zhe, and gaf, to represent Persian sounds absent in Arabic.
- Despite being the same language family as Farsi, Dari has retained some archaic features lost in Iranian Persian and has borrowed more vocabulary from Pashto, Turkic, and English.
- Afghanistan-born Australians number over 50,000, with the community growing substantially since the 2000s due to conflict-driven migration. Many arrived as refugees and humanitarian entrants. Communities are concentrated in Melbourne (Dandenong), Sydney (Merrylands, Auburn), and Adelaide, with Hazara, Tajik, and Pashtun communities often maintaining distinct cultural identities.
About Engadine
Engadine is a suburb in southern Sydney, in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Engadine is located 33 kilometres (21 mi) south of the Sydney central business district, in the local government area of the Sutherland Shire. The area was reserved for a national park in 1879, but in 1890 Charles McAlister was able to purchase land here which became known as McAlister’s Estate. After an overseas trip, the family renamed their estate ‘Engadine’ after the Engadin Valley in Switzerland. The wildflowers in the valley here and surrounding national parks were reminiscent of the valley and hills in Engadin. Charles McAlister subdivided his land sometime after 1900. He continued to live in Engadine but later moved to Cronulla, where he died in 1915. Every year in November the Lions Club of Engadine runs the McAllister Day Annual Fete at Cooper Street Reserve to honour the family that originally settled in the area.
