    The Albanian Language

    • Albanian is natively known as Shqip and belongs to the Indo-European, Albanian language family.
    • There are approximately 7.5 million native speakers worldwide.
    • Albanian forms its own independent branch of the Indo-European language family, with no close living relatives.
    • The language has two main dialect groups: Gheg in the north and Tosk in the south, with Standard Albanian based on Tosk.
    • Albanian has preserved many ancient Indo-European features that other languages have lost, making it invaluable for historical linguistics.
    • The Albanian alphabet was standardised in 1908 at the Congress of Monastir and contains 36 letters, including nine digraphs.
    • Albanian has a rich system of verb moods, including an admirative mood used to express surprise, which is rare among European languages.
    • Albanian migration to Australia began in the early 20th century, with larger waves arriving after World War II and during the Kosovo crisis in the late 1990s. Communities are concentrated in Melbourne and Sydney, with active cultural associations preserving Albanian heritage.

    About Lota

Lota translation servicesLota is an outer suburb of Brisbane, Australia. It is 16 km east of the CBD. The suburb is of primarily post-war residential make-up. This part of Moreton Bay was originally occupied by the semi-nomadic Mipirimm people of Quandamooka.

Most of the land of Lota was acquired by squatter and Irish-born politician William Duckett White in 1862, following sub-division of the lands from Lytton to Fig Tree Point (Lota). The suburb is named after Duckett White's house 'Lota House', built in 1863, in itself named after the family home of his wife, Jane, on Cork Harbour, County Cork, Ireland.
