    The Bosnian Language

    • Bosnian is natively known as Bosanski jezik and belongs to the Indo-European, Slavic, South Slavic language family.
    • There are approximately 2.5 million native speakers worldwide.
    • Bosnian is one of three official languages of Bosnia and Herzegovina, alongside Croatian and Serbian, though all three are mutually intelligible and were historically considered one language (Serbo-Croatian).
    • Bosnian can be written in both the Latin and Cyrillic alphabets, though the Latin script is predominant among Bosniak communities.
    • The language reflects Bosnia's multicultural heritage, incorporating loanwords from Turkish, Arabic, and Persian due to centuries of Ottoman rule.
    • Bosnian uses the ijekavian pronunciation system as its standard, distinguishing it from Serbian which predominantly uses ekavian.
    • Nobel Prize-winning author Ivo Andrić, born in Bosnia, wrote "The Bridge on the Drina" set in Višegrad — a landmark of South Slavic literature.
    • Australia received over 25,000 Bosnian refugees during and after the Yugoslav Wars of the 1990s, making it one of the largest Bosnian diaspora communities in the world. Communities are concentrated in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, and Adelaide, with active mosques, cultural associations, and Bosnian-language media.

    About Pymble

Pymble is a suburb on the Upper North Shore of Sydney in the state of New South Wales, Australia. Pymble is 16 kilometres (10 mi) north-west of the Sydney Central Business District in the local government area of Ku-ring-gai Council.

West Pymble is a separate suburb, surrounded by Lane Cove National Park. Based on settlers accounts the land that came to be known as Pymble was traversed by, and at least periodically inhabited by, what was by that time the "remains" of the Cammeraigal clan or tribe of the Kuringai (also known as Guringai) Aborigines. The Cammeraigal had owned the land between the Lane Cove River, Hawkesbury and east to the coast. They would travel from grounds at Cowan Creek to the Parramatta River via Pymble - passing west through the land where PLC now stands, through the Lane Cove Valley and North Ryde. En route they would reportedly hold corroborees at the current site of the Pymble Reservoir in Telegraph Rd and "camped on the hill...at the junction of Merrivale Rd and Selwyn St." According to Robert Pymble II "the Aborigines had faded out by about 1856, mainly because of smallpox."
