    The Czech Language

    • Czech is natively known as Čeština and belongs to the Indo-European, Slavic, West Slavic language family.
    • There are approximately 10.7 million native speakers worldwide.
    • Czech is the official language of the Czech Republic and is one of the official languages of the European Union.
    • The Czech diacritical system, using háček (caron) marks over consonants, was invented by the religious reformer Jan Hus in the 15th century and later influenced the orthographies of many other languages.
    • Czech has one of the most complex case systems among European languages, with seven grammatical cases for nouns, adjectives, and pronouns.
    • The Czech language contains the phoneme ř (voiced alveolar fricative trill), a sound extremely rare among world languages.
    • Czech and Slovak are mutually intelligible to a high degree, owing to their shared history within Czechoslovakia (1918-1993) and close linguistic relationship.
    • Czech migration to Australia occurred primarily after World War II and during the Cold War, particularly after the Soviet invasion of Czechoslovakia in 1968. The community numbers around 20,000, with concentrations in Melbourne and Sydney. Czech Australians maintain cultural ties through Sokol gymnastics clubs, cultural associations, and periodic festivals.

    About Taigum

Taigum is a northern suburb of Brisbane in Queensland in Australia. It is about 13 kilometres north of the Brisbane central business district|CBD. It is predominantly a residential area. The suburb contains a Centro shopping centre, which is similar to another shopping centre in Victoria Point, both of which opened in late 2003. The Taigum area was first developed around 1891, as part of a subdivision of the Nundah Divisional board.

In 1901, it was suggested, unsuccessfully, by the board that the name be changed to "Tyghum Divisional Board". Over 38% of households in this area are couples with children, 40% are of couples without children and 18% are single parent households. Over 61% of residential development are houses and another 25% are townhouses. Taigum/taigam is from Yuggera language, Turrbal dialect indicating lawyer vine (Calamus) found growing in the area.
